“It wouldn’t happen with Eguavoen” – Seven-cap Super Eagles striker speaks on Finidi-Osimhen feud

Anthony Ujah was a part of the Super Eagles team that played at the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil, trashing Tahiti 6-1.

Nigeria and Botiv Plovdev striker, Anthony Ujah, has spoken on the online rant made by Galatasaray striker, Victor Osimhen, towards the then Nigeria coach Finidi George, Soccernet.ng reports.

Osimhen was declared unfit by his doctors after a series of tests in a German hospital ahead of Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Benin Republic and South Africa.

It was also reported that Finidi mentioned that he wouldn’t beg anyone to play for Nigeria, which felt like a question about Osimhen’s commitment to the national team.

The Napoli loanee then went live on Instagram to air his opinions in a way that the Nigerian populace didn’t receive well.

Ujah, weighing in on the situation, revealed Osimhen’s lack of respect for Finidi, which led to online humiliation. The former Mainz 05 man further added the situation wouldn’t have happened with Eguavoen in charge.

“One thing in football is that if players don’t respect the coach, it becomes difficult. Unfortunately for Finidi, that’s what happened. Whatever happened between him and Osimhen wouldn’t have happened with Eguavoen because they all respect him,” the 33-year-old said in an interview with Brila.

Finidi, following his resignation from the Super Eagles, revealed he received no apology from the Galatasaray striker, but also went on to say he holds no grudge towards the 25-year-old.

Osimhen, on the other hand, returned to the Nigerian squad during the September international break, coming off the bench to score in Nigeria’s 3-0 win over Gernot Rohr’s Benin Republic.
