Former Borussia Dortmund midfielder and Nigerian football icon, Sunday Oliseh, has openly expressed his admiration for Bayer Leverkusen’s rising star, Victor Boniface, Soccernet.ng reports.
Boniface, who has been in scintillating form this season, made a strong impression during his UEFA Champions League debut on Thursday as Leverkusen demolished Feyenoord 4-0.
While the 22-year-old forward did not find the back of the net, his dribbling skills and relentless pressure kept Feyenoord’s defence on high alert throughout the match.
After the game, Boniface shared an emotional story, recalling his humble beginnings when he paid 30 naira to watch the Champions League in Akure. This dream has now come full circle with his participation in the tournament.
“From paying 30 naira to watch Champions League football at 323 Army Barracks, Akure, to playing in my first Champions League game. Proud of this moment,” Boniface posted.
The former Nigeria international Oliseh, who also plied his trade in the Bundesliga with Dortmund, responded warmly to Boniface’s post, reflecting his admiration for the Super Eagles striker.
“I get you, Bro! Always a joy to watch Victor Boniface play,” Oliseh replied.
As Boniface continues to shine in Germany, he will aim to add to his goal tally when Leverkusen welcome VfL Wolfsburg to the BayArena this Sunday.
