Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman delivers two-word reaction after inspiring Nigeria’s win over Benin

Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman has reacted to his outstanding performance in Nigeria’s commanding 3-0 victory over Benin on Saturday evening, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Super Eagles comfortably dispatched their West African rivals in Uyo, with Lookman netting twice and Victor Osimhen adding a second-half strike to secure Nigeria’s first win in four games.

Benin’s Cheetahs frustrated Nigeria for much of the first half, but Lookman broke the deadlock just before the interval with a moment of individual brilliance.

Late in the second half, the former Everton winger sealed the win with a header from a Moses Simon cross, after Osimhen had earlier doubled the Super Eagles’ advantage with an acrobatic finish.

Lookman’s two goals capped off a remarkable week for him, having also been named among the 30 best players in the world as the only African on the Ballon d’Or shortlist.

Shortly after the victory, Lookman took to Twitter, posting a two-word message: “Take off,” accompanied by emojis of the Nigerian flag, a rocket, two footballs to signify his brace, and several images of himself. The Atalanta star is clearly aiming high.

Since making his Super Eagles debut in March 2023, Lookman has now scored eight goals in 23 appearances. The 26-year-old will be hoping to continue his fine form when Nigeria face Rwanda in Kigali on Tuesday.
