“We can do it again” – Super Eagles midfielder ready to rip Manchester United apart in Premier League opener

Alex Iwobi scored a last-minute finish against Manchester United at Old Trafford last season, breaking a 19-year-old Fulham record.

Super Eagles and Fulham versatile midfielder, Alex Chuka Iwobi, is confident his side can come up with the goods in their Premier League opener against Manchester United, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 28-year-old was in good form as he provided two assists in Fulham’s 2-0 over Bundesliga side, TSG 1899 Hoffeinhem, and is keen on replicating the form against Erik Ten Haag’s side.

Fulham travel to Old Trafford on Friday, for the official curtain raiser of the 2024/2025 English Premier League season, and it could be an exciting fixture, as the Cottagers emerged victorious the last time they met in Manchester, with Iwobi scoring a late winner after his Nigerian teammate, Calvin Bassey broke the deadlock.

Speaking after his side’s win against Hoffenheim at the PreZero Arena in Germany, Iwobi revealed his team’s preparation ahead of their opener, and how he plans to create more memories with Marco Silva’s men.

“I mean, we were able to do it last season. Hopefully, we can do it again this season and start the season strong. It is a great test against Manchester United, one of the best teams in the Premier League, away. It is a good challenge for us. Last time out, was one of my most memorable moments in a Fulham jersey, but I am trying to create more. So, maybe we can do it again and create more, but it is all in the past now. It is about the present and hopefully doing it again,” the former Arsenal attacking midfielder told Fulham’s official website.

The former Everton man was also filled with praise for Fulham’s new acquisition, Emile Smith Rowe, who was on the scoresheet in their last game.

“He’s a great character and has a good personality. He’s a great addition to the team, and he’s always eager to learn. He’s got no ego. He’s scored two goals in two games, and hopefully, he can make it three in three against Manchester United,” Iwobi concluded.

Fulham have won just one of their last seventeen games against Manchester United, with the Reds winning fourteen.
