Super sub Orban leads Lyon to victory over Strasbourg in seven-goal thriller

Super Eagles striker Gift Orban scored a brace for Lyon to help them claim a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Strasbourg at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais, Soccernet.ng reports.

Orban was not included in Lyon’s squad in their 2-0 loss to Monaco last week, but he returned to the team for their Ligue 1 game against Strasbourg on Friday.

Lyon fell behind after just three minutes, with Sebastian Nanasi scoring for Strasbourg. However, Lyon replied with Corentin Tolisso scoring the equaliser in stoppage time of the first half.

Unfortunately for Lyon, they had a poor start to the second half, with Andrey Santos and Emanuel Emegha scoring before the 58th minute.

After falling two goals behind, Lyon coach Pierre Sage introduced Gift Orban in the 61st minute. That decision eventually paid off, as Ainsley Maitland-Niles scored for Lyon to make it 3-2 after 61 minutes.

The Super Eagles invitee then joined the party, as he scored the third for Lyon in the 63rd minute to equalise and make it 3-3.

Alexandre Lacazette sent a cross into the box as Orban was lurking in the box. The Nigerian striker jumped high to get his feet to it to make it 3-3.

Then, in the 72nd minute, Orban got his second and Lyon’s fourth. He was left unmarked in Strasbourg’s area and jumped highest to meet a cross from Malick Fofana, which he sent into the bottom left corner of Strasbourg’s goal to make it 4-3.

The game eventually ended 4-3 in Lyon’s favour, and Orban will be hoping that his performance earn him a place in Lyon’s squad moving forward.
