Head coach of Nigeria’s U-20 women’s team, Christopher Danjuma, is determined to lead the Super Falconets to glory at the 2024 U-20 Women’s World Cup, Soccernet.ng reports.
Danjuma’s squad has been drawn into a formidable group featuring Germany, Venezuela, and the Korea Republic, but he remains unshaken by the challenge.
Buoyed by their impressive performances as runners-up in 2010 and 2014, the Super Falconets are brimming with confidence as they prepare for the tournament.
Speaking to FIFA Media, Danjuma expressed his unwavering optimism about the team’s prospects, believing that this is the year Nigeria will secure their first World Cup title.
“We are closing in on our goal,” Danjuma stated. “As Africans, we view this with a spiritual perspective. We are confident that now is the right time to build on the achievements of 2010 and 2014. I am certain that Africa will stand atop the world for the first time.”
The Super Falconets will kick off their campaign with a match against the Korea Republic on September 2. They will then face Germany two days later, before wrapping up the group stage against Venezuela later in September.
Danjuma is enthusiastic about the competitive nature of the matches and is eager to see his team make a significant impact.
“All three nations are passionate about advancing women’s football, so being in the same group is both a challenge and an opportunity,” Danjuma noted. “We are proud to represent our country and excited to showcase our talent and skills in Colombia.”
Danjuma, who previously guided Nigeria’s U-20 women’s team at the 2022 World Cup in Costa Rica, where they were eliminated by the Netherlands in the quarterfinals, is determined to lead the Super Falconets to new heights.
With a focus on overcoming past disappointments and building a stronger squad, Danjuma is hopeful that this year will be a turning point for Nigerian women’s football.
