“My captain” – Former Watford striker reacts to Bruno Fernandes’ stunning display against Fulham

Odion Ighalo joined Manchester United in the winter transfer window of 2020 from Chinese Super League side, Shangai Shenhua.

Nigeria and Al Wehda centre forward, Odion Jude Ighalo, praised Manchester United captain, Bruno Fernandes for his brilliant display in the 2024/2025 English Premier League opener against Fulham last night, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Red Devils welcomed the Cottagers to Old Trafford, with shadows of the previous encounter (which ended in a defeat for Erik Ten Hag’s men) still loomed in the early minutes after kick-off, but as time went on, Marco Silva’s men struggled to impose themselves on the game.

United’s captain, Bruno Fernandes, took the game by the scruff of its neck, despite playing outside his favourite number ten role, nearly got on the scoresheet.

The Portuguese midfielder had six shots on goal and was denied by Bernd Leno twice as Fulham looked to keep things tight at the back.

The deadlock was broken in the 87th minute when United’s debutant striker, Joshua Orobosa Zirkzee, swept home from a Garnacho cross to secure the first three points of the season for the three-time UEFA Champions League winners.

After the game, Odion Ighalo, who featured for Manchester United in the 2019/2020 season, took to Bruno’s Instagram page, to place a comment praising the former Sporting Lisbon midfielder.

The pair played 17 games for Manchester United in 2020, winning nine, drawing four, and losing four. They also combined just once for a brilliant goal against LASK in the UEFA Europa League round of 16 clash. The Red Devils won the game, 5-nil.

Manchester United will continue their Premier League campaign next week on Saturday as they travel to The American Express Community to face Brighton and Hove Albion.
