Gift Orban makes case for himself at Lyon after brace in pre-season friendly against Union Berlin

There have been talks that Gift Orban will leave Lyon this summer, but he has proven that he can be a reliable striker

Super Eagles striker Gift Orban got off the bench to net a brace for Lyon in their 4-0 spanking of Union Berlin in a pre-season encounter at Stadion An der Alten Forseteri, Soccernet.ng reports.

Orban’s future has been in the balance in recent weeks due to Lyon’s activity in the summer transfer market. The Super Eagles star joined Lyon last season after a series of impressive performances for Gent. Unfortunately for him, he did not get a lot of play time last season.

This summer, there have been talks that Orban could exit Lyon after they signed Georges Mikautadze to add to the striker position which also has Alexander Lacazzete.

However, those talks may have to halt for a bit. This is as Orban got off the bench to net a brace for Lyon in a friendly game against Union Berlin.

The Nigerian striker was introduced into the game for Mikautadze in the second half. Lyon took charge if the game in the second half, with Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Said Benrahma both scoring by the 65th minute. Then Orban got on the scoresheet in the 75th minute after picking a long pass from Lucas Perri in front of Union Berlin’s area and smacking the ball home with venom

Then nine minutes later, Orban got his second, as he got on the end of a cross in the box and just tapped the ball into the net to make it 4-0 to Lyon. It eventually ended 4-0 in Berlin, and Orban’s goals helps him build his case for first-team football next season.
