Again! Super Eagles star picks up injury ahead of AFCON 2025 qualifiers

Super Eagles of Nigeria are slated to tackle Benin Republic in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in September

Super Eagles and Nantes FC forward Simon Moses has suffered his second injury of the year 2024, Soccernet.ng reports.

In the latter part of the 2023-24 season, Nantes, a French Ligue 1 team, announced that the 28-year-old player had sustained a fractured fibula. This injury sidelined him for three months, effectively ending his season.

After recovering from the injury and making a swift comeback, Moses played a pivotal role in securing a victory for Nantes in their pre-season friendly against Laval. However, reports now indicate that he has picked up another injury.

Nantes manager Antoine Kombouaré expressed his concern over Moses’ injury ahead of the new season.

“The two little worries are Simon (Moses) with his ankle still giving me problems and then little Adel (Mahamoud) who hurt his knee. I hope it’s not too serious,” he said, as quoted by Nantes Tribune.

Moses previously missed Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against South Africa and Benin Republic, where the Super Eagles drew against the South Africans and lost to Benin.

His absence was deeply felt in these crucial matches, and the Super Eagles now risk being without him again for their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin Republic.

The skills of the former Levante forward were sorely missed in the two crucial clashes, and the Super Eagles face the possibility of his absence once more in their upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin Republic.
