“We can make Nigeria the best team in Africa” – Swiss football coach promises to turn things around with the Super Eagles

Born in Switzerland, Savoy is of Spanish descent. He has coached several African national teams in the past.

Coach of the Central African Republic national football team, Raoul Savoy, has revealed the Super Eagles of Nigeria have all it takes to be a top team despite their recent results, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 51-year-old Swiss coach is currently in his second stint with Les Fauves and revealed he will waste no time in joining the Super Eagles if they come for him.

“I don’t know why the national team is not doing well. Maybe the expatriate coaches you are taking don’t really know Africa and maybe they are not really good for the team. I’m sure I can tell you now that If I take this team with my technical staff, we are going to do very good things and maybe again be one of the better teams in Africa. I don’t know why they made the strange decision, they took some coaches I don’t know but after they tried, they left. If they give me the team, I can promise to make Nigeria a great team in Africa,” he said in an interview with Brila FM.

Barely a month after his official appointment, Finidi George resigned from his post as the coach of the Super Eagles, but Savoy also refused to apply for the vacant position.

“I can’t apply when I am under contract with another national team, it’s not fair but in football normally when you want somebody and you are sure that this guy or the technical staff is the better one for your team, you can just make a call and then we can talk, but I don’t want to talk when I’m under contract, it is not fair,” the Swiss coach concluded.

The Nigeria Football Federation have been reported to be in talks with several foreign coaches, but nothing concrete has happened so far.

  • Very what? Very good. I suggest next that we should poach Swaziland's coach, or the guy coaching Maui part-time

  • if he actually said he could make Nigeria the best team in Africa, he should NEVER EVER BE ALLOWED TO NEAR NIGERIA, when we are talking of World standard, he's talking about Africa. what a low level orientation

  • he said he will make us best in Africa and so far we're the best in Africa we will be compit with any team in the world
