Victor Osimhen: Carlo Ancelotti reveals why Real Madrid didn’t move for Nigeria and Napoli star

Real Madrid’s head coach Carlo Ancelotti has explained why the club decided not to pursue Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, Soccernet.ng reports.

Regarded as one of the finest centre-forwards in Europe, Osimhen has been linked with a move to Real Madrid several times.

Last summer, after Karim Benzema left, there was much speculation that Osimhen would join the Spanish giants. He had just led Napoli to a Serie A title and seemed a perfect fit for Real Madrid.

However, no deal was made as Real Madrid did not even make an offer for Osimhen. On Monday, Carlo Ancelotti shed light on the club’s decision during an interview with ‘Radio Serie A,’ as reported by Area Napoli.

When asked about the club’s interest in the Nigerian striker, Ancelotti said:

“No, because I think the club thought that Benzema’s absence could be remedied by purchasing Bellingham.”

Real Madrid had a successful season, winning both the league and the Champions League, showing that their decision might have been the right one.

Despite this, Osimhen remains highly sought after in the transfer market.

Premier League clubs like Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester United are still interested in signing the 25-year-old forward.

French champions PSG are also keeping an eye on Osimhen, especially since Kylian Mbappe has moved to Madrid.

Osimhen is expected to start preseason training with Napoli, but it is unlikely he will stay with the club for the 2024/25 Serie A season starting in August.
