Super Eagles’ Wilfred Ndidi excited to join forces with Taiwo Awoniyi’s former boss

Steve Cooper, who managed Super Eagles' attacker Taiwo Awoniyi at Nottingham Forest, is the current coach of Wilfred Ndidi

Super Eagles defensive midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, has expressed his excitement about working under Leicester City’s new manager, Steve Cooper, following the departure of Enzo Maresca to Chelsea, Soccernet.ng reports.

Steve Cooper, who previously managed Super Eagles attacker Taiwo Awoniyi at Nottingham Forest, has taken over at the King Power Stadium. Cooper’s arrival follows Leicester City’s decision to appoint him after Maresca’s exit.

Ndidi, who recently committed his future to Leicester City by signing a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2027, spoke positively about his initial conversations with Cooper.

“I’ve had a chance to speak with [Steve Cooper]. I spoke to him during the holidays when he came in [as Leicester’s manager],” Ndidi told the club’s official website.

Cooper is well-regarded for his role in securing Nottingham Forest’s promotion to the English Premier League in 2022, following a 1-0 victory against Huddersfield Town.

The 27-year-old Ndidi further revealed that Cooper has shared some exciting ideas with him ahead of the 2024-25 Premier League campaign, which he eagerly anticipates.

“He had some good ideas to share with me, so it was really, really amazing, and I’m looking forward to working with him. He’s a great guy, he’s funny. I look forward to working with him, it’s very exciting,” Ndidi added.

In preparation for the upcoming season, Leicester City will face Shrewsbury, Augsburg, and Lens in pre-season friendlies. Ndidi is looking forward to his first game under Cooper’s management.
