Super Eagles invitee Gabriel Osho follows Taribo West’s footsteps with new jersey number

Super Eagles invitee Gabriel Osho has joined AJ Auxerre from Luton Town on a one-year contract with an option for two additional years

Former Luton Town defender Gabriel Osho has taken up the iconic number 3 jersey at AJ Auxerre, a number famously worn by Nigerian legend Taribo West, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Super Eagles invitee recently joined the newly promoted French Ligue 1 side on a one-year contract with an option for an additional two years.

Osho’s transfer to Auxerre has sparked memories of the 1994-95 season when Taribo West donned the same number for the Diplomats.

The formidable Nigerian defender left an indelible mark on Auxerre’s fans with his defensive prowess and leadership on the field, which were instrumental in the club’s successes throughout the mid-90s.

West played a significant role for the French side during the memorable 1995-96 season when Auxerre achieved a historic Ligue 1 and Coupe de France double.

Osho joins Auxerre with aspirations of making a significant impact as well. The English-Nigerian footballer has shown promise in his previous stints with Reading and Luton Town in the English Football League.

His defensive skills have drawn comparisons to the legendary Super Eagles defender, West, making his assignment of the number 3 jersey a perfect match.

With the new season approaching, all eyes will be on Osho as he proudly wears the number 3 jersey, aiming to honor the legacy of his Nigerian predecessor while forging his own path at Auxerre.
