Report – Nottingham Forest and Ipswich Town vie to keep Kelechi Iheanacho in England

Kelechi Iheanacho’s contract with Leicester City expired in June after spending seven years at the King Power Stadium

English Premier League clubs Nottingham Forest and Ipswich Town are reportedly interested in signing Nigerian international Kelechi Iheanacho, Soccernet.ng reports.

Iheanacho’s contract with Leicester City expired last month, and the club has shown no intention of extending his stay at the King Power Stadium, unlike his compatriot Wilfred Ndidi.

In addition to interest from English clubs, Turkish teams such as Trabzonspor and Galatasaray have also made offers to entice the Super Eagles forward to Turkey.

However, according to Football Insider, Nottingham Forest aims to reunite Iheanacho with his fellow Nigerian teammates, Taiwo Awoniyi and Ola Aina, by presenting an attractive offer that could keep him in the Premier League for the upcoming season.

Ipswich Town, newly promoted to the Premier League, is also keen to secure Iheanacho’s signature. They hope to offer him a lifeline and the opportunity to continue his career in England.

Despite the interest, there have been no formal contract negotiations between Iheanacho and his Premier League suitors. However, sources suggest that Iheanacho would prefer to stay in the EPL due to his family’s settled life in the country.

Iheanacho joined Leicester City in 2017 from Manchester City. During his seven-year tenure with the Foxes, he made 232 appearances and scored 61 goals. Over six Premier League seasons, he netted 30 goals for Leicester.
