New year, New me – Chukwueze sends message to Milan fans ahead of promising Serie A season

Super Eagles and AC Milan winger, Samuel Chukwueze, has promised the fans of the seven-time UEFA Champions League winners expect a new side of him in the coming season, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 25-year-old joined the Rossoneri from Villareal last summer but struggled to impress, scoring just three goals and providing three assists in 33 games. He also spent a huge portion of the season playing second fiddle to the in-form Christian Pulisic.

Primed for a better second season, the Nigerian was at his creative best in his side’s 3-2 win against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City at the Yankee Stadium last Saturday, teeing up Lorenzo Colombo on two occasions.

Speaking after the game, the former Villareal man was filled with praise for his new coach, Paulo Fonseca, claiming the Portuguese will bring out the best in him.

“I like the new coach. He gave me an opportunity straight away, and it’s important when someone trusts you. The fans will see a new Samu this year,” Chukwueze said in an interview with Milan TV.

However, the right-winger admitted that things are far from perfect despite their win against one of the best teams in World football.

“We had a great feeling in this second friendly. It wasn’t an easy match and winning it was exactly what the team and our coach needed to have more belief and train better. We still have a lot to learn about the coach’s schemes. We made some mistakes but we managed to limit them and we took our chances. We have to continue working and stay focused on the season. I’m very happy to be part of the team from the beginning. I hope to be able to give my best for the team this season to show my worth,” the 2015 U-17 FIFA World Cup winner concluded.

AC Milan will play against Real Madrid on Thursday before taking on Barcelona the following week. After, they’ll return to Italy to kick-off their Serie A campaign against Torino.
