Leicester City confident Super Eagles star will sign new deal with contract still on the table

Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho joined the Foxes in 2017 and won the FA Cup and the Community Shield during their time at the club.

Newly promoted EPL side, Leicester City are confident that Super Eagles versatile midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, will sign a new contract at the club, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 27-year-old joined the Foxes in 2017, winning the FA Cup and the Community Shield under Brendan Rodgers in 2021, before lifting the EFL Championship trophy under Enzo Maresca in 2024.

Like his Nigerian teammate – Kelechi Iheanacho, Ndidi’s contract at the King Power Stadium expired at the end of last month, having rejected multiple extension offers from the club. The Super Eagles midfielder has been linked with several clubs as he’s now a free agent.

According to The Telegraph, the 2016 English Premier League winners are in talks with Ndidi as their offer is still on the table of the former Genk man and Leicester are growing confident of reaching an agreement.

Former Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper was appointed as Leicester’s manager on June 20 and wants to secure his transfer targets before the Premier League season gets underway.

The Foxes have already reached an agreement with young Atalanta defender, Caleb Okoli, and Fulham’s Jamaican winger, Bobby De Cordova-Reid.

Leicester were charged with breaking Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) in March and are facing the prospect of a points deduction in the English top-flight. This explains why they’re willing to hold on to Ndidi rather than splash more money into the transfer market.

Kelechi Iheanacho, on the other hand, is yet to make an official announcement on his future as regards club football next season. He has been linked to Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa, but nothing concrete has happened.
