“Forget I have German pali” – Nigeria legend Sunday Oliseh wants Super Eagles return amidst World Cup woes

Former Nigeria international Sunday Oliseh has expressed his willingness to return as coach of the Super Eagles to help them qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Soccernet.ng reports.

Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar where Argentina were crowned champions and the African giants look condemned to miss the next edition to be played across North America.

Former Juventus and Ajax star Oliseh has said he is ready to assist the national team as they face a difficult path to World Cup qualification. His offer comes in the wake of the team’s recent struggles and the resignation of coach Finidi George.

Finidi, who took over from Jose Peseiro in March, resigned after just one month following disappointing results in the qualifiers. Nigeria drew with South Africa and suffered a shocking defeat to Benin Republic, leaving their World Cup hopes in jeopardy.

In an interview with Elegbete TV, Oliseh said,

“I have one country. Forget that I have German pali. Nothing brings me more joy than my people. If my country wants to speak with me, I will answer. I can also provide technical assistance because we need to qualify for the World Cup.”

Oliseh’s comments come eight years after he resigned as Super Eagles coach due to contract violations and unpaid wages.

Since then, he has managed Dutch club Fortuna Sittard and German side SV 19 Straelen. Now, he seems ready to return and help guide Nigeria to the World Cup.
