Why it will be tough for Sadiq Umar to join another club soon

Super Eagles striker Sadiq Umar may find it tough to leave Real Sociedad this summer because of his high wages, Soccernet.ng reports.

Sadiq joined Real Sociedad two years ago after impressing at Almeria. The Txuri-urdin had to break their transfer record to sign Sadiq, paying €20 million for his services.

It looked like it would be a marriage made in heaven after the Super Eagles star scored on his debut against Atletico Madrid.

However, it soon turned sour in Sadiq’s third appearance for Real Sociedad, when he suffered a cruciate ligament injury that kept him out for the rest of the season.

Nonetheless, Sadiq returned to action at the start of last, but he had already lost his place. He scored three impressive goals for Real Sociedad in the Laliga, but it was clear that coach Imanol Alguacil was not going to give him enought minutes because of the presence of Sheraldo Becker and Take Kubo.

Earlier on, Soccernet.ng reported that there were talks linking Sadiq with a move away from Real Sociedad, with Getafe as a possible destination. It was reported that Getafe wanted Sadiq on loan due to the looming exit of English striker Mason Greenwood.

It appears that the parties involved have met to discuss the possibility of a transfer but there seems to be a drawback.

According to El Rincon de la Real, Sadiq’s salary could be a problem. The 27-year-old striker makes around €2.5million per year, and that is a big sum for Getafe and the other clubs interested in him.

For Sadiq to move to another club, Real Sociedad would have to sort out the wages issue. They could decide split to it between them and whichever club he goes to. The only other way is if they sell Sadiq outright. And for that to happen, he would likely have to take a pay cut.
