Recent reports have revealed the exit of former Ajax forward Finidi George from his position as head coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Soccernet.ng reports.
According to veteran Nigerian journalist Colin Udoh, Finidi George resigned due to the Nigeria Football Federation’s (NFF) silence and lack of support.
The NFF has not yet held a meeting regarding the resignation of the former Super Eagles forward, likely due to the long Muslim break observed in Nigeria.
After the departure of Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro, it took the NFF more than six weeks to appoint a new head coach for the Super Eagles.
A similar delay is expected this time, as selecting a coach requires multiple meetings and thorough deliberation considering the financial implications surrounding it.
The Super Eagles’ next match window is in September, so the NFF is expected to announce the new coach in August.
This timing would allow the new coach to observe and interact with the players as they resume football action.
Three names have reportedly topped the NFF’s list. Soccernet.ng understands that former Cameroon coach Antonio Conceicao is the leading candidate for the foreign technical adviser role.
With Finidi George’s exit, there is a suggestion that he might step back into the head coach role. However, there are conflicting opinions on hiring a foreign coach due to budget constraints.
As a result, the NFF may opt for a local coach, with Salisu Yusuf and Samson Siasia being considered for the position.
