Ex-Super Eagles midfielder Mikel has revealed that a mix of certain qualities of Sergio Busquets, Gennaro Gattuso, Xavi Hernandez, Andres Iniesta, Kevin Debruyne, Michale Essien, Rodri, and Andrea Pirlo would make his perfect midfielder, Soccernet.ng reports.
Mikel is one of the best midfielders that has come out of Nigeria, and he had quite a successful career for both club and country. The former Chelsea man won the AFCON withe the Super Eagles, while he won all available trophies with Chelsea.
In a recent development, Mikel has shared how he would build his ideal midfielder. Surprisingly the 33-year-old did not choose any of his attributes despite his accomplishments during his playing years.
For passing ability, Mikel chose Busquets; for workrate, he choise Gattuso; Xavi for his finishing; Iniesta for vision, Debruyne for techniques; Rodri for skills; Essien for strength, and Pirlo for football IQ.
A surprise omission from Mikel’s list is former Super Eagles star Okocha. The former Bolton and Fenerbahce man is widely regarded as one of the best players that graced the game.
Mikel spent eleven years at Chelsea, and he was key in their first-ever Champions League title. The former Nigeria international had one of his best-ever performances for Nigeria in that game.
