Rasheedat Ajibade wins Atletico de Madrid Femenino’s Player of the Season Award

Super Falcons and Atletico de Madrid Feminino forward, Rasheedat Busayo Ajibade, has won the club’s Player of the Season award, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 24-year-old played primarily as a left winger for Las Rojiblancos. Still, she featured as a right-winger, attacking midfielder, and as striker sparingly, scoring 10 goals and providing eight assists in all competitions for the La Liga Femenin side.

Alongside, the former Avaldnes forward scored a crucial spot kick against Bayana Bayana of South Africa at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja to send Nigeria to the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Ajibade scored the only goal of the game as Atletico defeated Villareal to secure a UEFA Women’s Champions League spot for next season, and to take her tally for the season to ten goals. Afterwards, she was given the Player of the Season award.

After a successful La Liga season, Rasheedat can now begin her holidays. She will begin preparations for their outing at the Paris 2024 Olympics alongside her Super Falcons teammates.

Randy Waldrum’s team defeated Cameroon, and South Africa to secure an Olympic spot for the first time in sixteen years. They’ve been drawn into the same group as Japan, Brazil, and Spain.

The group has been labeled as the “group of death”, but Asisat Oshoala is confident the eleven-time African Champions can return home with a medal.

The Olympic Games will take place from 26 July to 11 August. The women’s football tournament is set to kick off on July 25, a day before the Olympic Games opening ceremony, and will culminate with the final in Paris on August 10.
