Former Super Eagles and Chelsea midfielder, John Mikel Obi, was under the knife at the Princess Care Hospital in London, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 37-year-old in recent times has been on ambassadorship duties with UEFA alongside interviewing prestigious past and present footballers on the Obi One podcast.
The 2013 AFCON-winning midfielder took to his Instagram story to share photos of himself before and after the surgery he underwent, before exiting the hospital on crutches.
The exact cause of the surgery is still unknown, but Mikel’s details on his Instagram page have shown that there is no reason to be alarmed.
Mikel’s career at Chelsea started in 2006 after joining from the Norwegian side, Lynn, and exited the Stamford Bridge in the winter transfer window of 2017.
In his time in London, the former Super Eagles captain won the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, the English Premier League twice and the Emirates FA Cup four times. He also won the Africa Cup of Nations tournament with the Super Eagles under Stephen Keshi in 2013 while claiming a bronze medal in the 2016 Olympics hosted in Rio De Janeiro under Samson SiaSia.
Mikel retired from football two years ago at the age of 35, declaring himself very satisfied with all he was able to achieve during a career that spanned almost two decades.
The ex-Super Eagles captain played for FK Lyn, Chelsea, Chinese side-Tianjin Teda, Trabzonspor, Middlesbrough, Stoke City and Kuwait SC.
