Former Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Emenike has pitched his tent with Turkey ahead of their Euros 2024 clash against Portugal at the Signal Iduna Park on Saturday, Soccernet.ng reports.
Turkey lock horns with a star-studded Portugal side in their second game of the 2024 Euros. Both teams won their first games of the tournament and need another win to seal qualification to the knockout rounds.
Portugal are favorites because of the number of quality players in their coffers with stars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Rafael Leao, Bruno Fernandes and more. However, Turkey will be looking to spring an upset with they mix of players and young talents up front.
Ahead of the game, former Super Eagles star Emenike, who was the highest goalscorer for Nigeria at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations has shared a post on Instagram, showing support for Turkey.
Emenike started his sojourn in Europe in Turkey. He made a name for himself with former Super Lig champions Fenerbahce, registering 25 goals and 22 assists in 93 appearance.
The 33-year-old won the league with Fenerbahce and played for them in the UEFA Champions League. And apparently, because of the success he had in Turkey, Emenike has a soft spot for the country.
The last time both teams met was in 2022, and Portugal won the tie 3-1.
