Another Super Eagles tragedy: Weeks after Tijani Babangida, 2013 Afcon winner loses sister in-law in truck accident, brother in ICU

Former Super Eagles midfielder Ogenyi Onazi has revealed that his sister-in-law was killed while his brother sustained several injuries after a trailer loaded with fertilizer crashed into their car in a ghastly road accident on Tuesday, Soccernet.ng reports.

In early May, retired Super Eagles forward Tijani Babangida suffered one of the worst tragedies that any one could suffer, as he lost his son and his brother to a ghastly car accident. His wife also lost one of her eyes in the crash.

Now, former Super Eagles midfielder Onazi, who was part of the victorious team that won the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, has experienced a similar tragedy.

The former Lazio man shared videos of his brother’s wrecked car after a trailer ran into it. And he revealed that his brother suffered severe injuries and was in intensive care, but his wife died unfortunately.

Onazi also called on the government and the concerned law enforcement agencies to always check drivers’ credentials and capabilities before letting them get on the road.

Onazi has 51 caps for the Super Eagles, and although he has not officially retired yet, he has not played for Nigeria since 2018.
