Watch: “My mum makes it” –Arsenal star Bukayo Saka rates UK and Nigerian food

Saka was born in the UK, but he is still connected to his Nigerian roots

Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka has expressed his preference for some Nigerian dishes, stating that his mum has always prepared them for him, Soccernet.ng reports.

Saka is one of many footballers who were born to Nigerian parents but represent European countries. The explosive 22-year-old winger was born in London to Nigerian parents Adenike and Yomi Saka, but he represents England on the international stage.

Nonetheless, Saka still knows his roots. Saka has been involved in different charity works to help children in Nigeria. At the end of last season, he paid a visit to Lagos state, where he got to mert Governor Sanwo Olu.

In a recent video, where Saka had to choose between some indigenous Nigerian meals and indigenous United Kingdom food, the Arsenal star picked Nigerian food mostly.

When asked to choose between cauliflower cheese, which is common to the British and jollof rice, which is very common in Nigeria, Saka opted for the latter.

Also, he opted for moin moin instead of scotch eggs, stating that he was used to eating the former because his mother had always prepared it for him since he was little.

“I like moin moin, it’s like beans, but its just made in a different way. My mum puts a bit of fish when she makes it, and it’s really nice,” Saka said.

The Arsenal star also added that he is a big fan of plantain chips. However, he chose Twix chocolate instead of Milo, and the UK’s love hearts instead of Nigerian sweet Tom Tom.
