“They are must-win games”- Ndidi sends strong warning to South Africa, Benin ahead of World Cup qualifiers

Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has warned South Africa and Benin that Nigeria is targeting victories when they clash in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in June, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Super Eagles will be looking to ascend to the top of group C of the World Cup qualifiers when they play the Bafana Bafana and Benin later in June.

They currently sit third in the group after consecutive draws against Zimbabwe and Lesotho in their first two games.

As it stands, if the Super Eagles drop points in any of those games, it could put them in a precarious situation. Leicester City star Ndidi, who will be looking to play an important role for the team in both games is quite aware of what is at stake, and he has iterated his desire to emerge on top in both games.

“Yeah they (the games) are really important because we know where we stand at the moment. It’s not a good position, to be honest, we should be honest with ourselves,” Ndidi told Arise TV, per The Punch.

“Where we are at the moment gives us more pressure, because these games are must-win games. I’m not saying we will win the game but I’m saying they are must-win games because we don’t know what’s going to happen but it all bores down to us as a team because we know what is at hand and then we know we have to get as much as we can in these two games just to go up there.”

Former Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro was in charge of the first two games, but new coach Findi George will take charge of he games against South Africa and Benin. It will be a baptism of fire for the Ajax man, and he will be looking to come out unscathed.
