Juventus deny Lookman’s quest to win Atalanta first silverware in 13 years after Copa Italia final loss

Lookman was unsung in the quarter-final, but he did not have a similar effect in the final

Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman was unable to help his Atalanta side as they fell to a painful 1-0 loss to Juventus in the final of the Copa Italia, Soccernet.ng reports.

Lookman returned to Atalanta’s starting eleven for their Copa Italia final game against Juventus at the Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday. The Nigeria international had a great performance for Atalanta in the semifinal, scoring one and assisting another to help them defeat Fiorentina.

Unfortunately for Atalanta, they conceded an early goal courtesy of Dusan Vlahovic, who pounced on a cross from Andrea Cambiaso and flicked the ball into Atalanta’s net from close range.

Lookman had a chance to score the equalizer for Atalanta in the 26th minute, but his strike just dragged wide. In the 51st minute, Lookman had another effort in the box, but it was saved.

Unfortunately for Atalanta, luck was not on their side, as Lookman fashioned out another effort in the 79th minute after Teun Koopmeiners released him with a nice pass on the edge of the box. The strike beat the goalkeeper, but it just hit the upright and bounced back.

Atalanta pressed hard for the equalizer, but it just didn’t pan out in their favour, as Juventus ran out 1-0 winners, nicking their record-extending 15th Copa Italia. Meanwhile, Atalanta will continue the search for their first trophyless since 2011.
