New head coach of the Super Eagles, Finidi George, has indicated when he will announce his squad list ahead of Nigeria’s World Cup qualifiers, Soccernet.ng reports.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria are set to face the Bafana Bafana of South Africa and the Squirrels of Benin Republic in June for the continuation of their 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
As other African countries have started releasing their squad lists for the international break, questions have arisen about when the former Ajax forward will announce his list.
Speaking at a press conference witnessed by Soccernet.ng, Finidi explained that the delay is due to the recovery status of some players who might still feature in the squad.
“The list will come out this week. Hopefully, it will come out this week, so let us exercise a little bit of patience. The league is just rounding up, and we have to see those who are one hundred percent fit because we are getting reports from our medical staff about some players being injured. So we have to give them some time to see if they can make the list or not. But I definitely know by this weekend, you will all see for yourselves,” he said.
The former Nigerian international is eagerly anticipating his debut match as the head coach of the Super Eagles, with the clash against South Africa scheduled to be held at the Nest of Champions in Uyo in June. He will be hoping for a victory to start his tenure on a positive note.
