Ex-Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho agrees to become Super Eagles defender’s new manager

Jose Mourinho was sacked as the manager of AS Roma just few months from leading them to the European Conference League triumph

Former Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho, has reportedly agreed to become the next manager of Fenerbahce just five months after his exit from AS Roma’s managerial role, Soccernet.ng reports.

Soccernet.ng earlier reports that the former Real Madrid manager has drawn attention as Aziz Yıldırım, a candidate for Fenerbahce’s presidency, reportedly disclosed that appointing Mourinho is among his priorities if he wins the election to become the next President of the club.

New reports, according to Italy-based journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, suggest that the Portuguese gaffer is on track to assume the reins at the Turkish giants, potentially marking his 11th managerial stint.

This equally means that the former Inter Milan boss will manage Super Eagles defender, Bright Osayi-Samuel who has also been linked with an exit away from Turkey.

Premier League Trio Eyeing Osayi-Samuel Transfer

Three Premier League outfits – Crystal Palace, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Leeds United – have turned their attention to Osayi-Samuel, the versatile right-sided player currently plying his trade for Fenerbahçe and the Super Eagles.

After catching the eye with his performances during AFCON 2023, the 26-year-old is now the subject of interest, with a valuation in the region of ten million euros. Crystal Palace, in particular, is keen on securing his signature, with hopes of pairing him alongside fellow Nigerian Eberechi Eze.

Despite facing competition from clubs outside of England, Palace remains determined to integrate Osayi-Samuel into their long-term plans.

Osayi-Samuel’s Contract Situation

With just one year remaining on his current deal, Fenerbahçe is reportedly in talks to extend Osayi-Samuel’s contract. The Turkish club is looking to enhance his current annual salary of 600,000 euros and secure a three-year extension beyond his current agreement, which runs until June 2025.

The objective behind this move is twofold: to acknowledge the player’s contributions and to fend off interest from potential suitors.

The Mourinho Factor

Reports suggest that discussions have taken place between Fenerbahçe’s leadership and Jose Mourinho, sparking excitement among the club’s supporters.

Mourinho’s potential arrival raises hopes for future success, with fans envisioning Osayi-Samuel benefiting from the guidance of a manager of Mourinho’s caliber, similar to his compatriot Mikel Obi’s experience under the Portuguese tactician’s tutelage.
