Watch: Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi reps Nigerian flag on socks – Hinting at Super Eagles switch?

Karim Adeyemi caught the attention of Hansi Flick, leading to his inclusion in the Germany first-team squad in 2021 and securing a place in Flick's 2022 World Cup lineup.

Borussia Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi made headlines after displaying the Nigerian flag on his socks following their thrilling victory over Bayern Munich, as reported by Soccernet.ng.

The Yellow Submarines secured a commendable 2-0 win at the Allianz Arena, with goals from Adeyemi and Julian Ryerson sealing the triumph.

Despite being a German forward, Adeyemi’s eligibility to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria has sparked interest, especially after the Nigerian flag was recently spotted on his socks.

Watch the video here:

In an earlier conversation with Soccernet.ng, Adeyemi expressed his admiration for Nigerian football and his willingness to represent the Super Eagles if given the opportunity.

“If I had the chance, of course. For me, I think it’s a great national team, [and] in the future [they] will be great, they have good players, and in the past, [they were] also great.” he told Soccernet.ng.

Although Adeyemi has represented Germany at various youth levels, including the U-16, U-17, and U-21 teams, his commitment to the German national team remains steadfast.

However, FIFA’s eligibility criteria, established in September 2020, presents an opportunity for players to switch allegiance if they meet specific conditions.

Despite Adeyemi’s appearances for the German side, which include three World Cup qualifiers and a UEFA Nations League match, his participation in non-competitive fixtures leaves room for a potential change in allegiance.

If Adeyemi misses out on selection for the upcoming Euro tournament, speculation suggests that he may consider switching to join the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
