Super Eagles midfielder Raphael Onyedika scored for Club Brugge in the 3-0 victory over rivals Antwerp in their Belgium Jupiler League playoffs game, Soccernet.ng reports.
Onyedika has been in superb form for Club Brugge in the last three weeks. The Nigeria international scored a brace a week ago in their 3-1 win over Antwerp at the Jan Breydel Stadium.
Then in midweek, he put up a brilliant midfield performance in their 1-0 win over PAOK in the UEFA Conference League final.
On Sunday, they took on league rivals Antwerp at home, and they were the favourites to emerge victorious. Coach Nicky Hayen kept Nigeria star Onyedika in the starting eleven as usual to operate from the middle of the park.
Antwerp dominated the possession in the first half, but they failed to create decent chances. Club Brugge on the other hand, did not see much of the ball, but they created the better chances.
Onyedika had a fine chance to score in the 15th minute, but his header went wide off the mark. However, the Nigeria international did not fail in his second attempt in the 44th minute.
Club Brugge won a free-kick in the 43rd minute, which was swung in. Joel Ordonez got his head to the in-swinger, but he failed to get it on target. However, Onyedika got on the end of the rebound and fired a shot on target from a difficult position to score the opener for the former Belgian champions.
Unfortunately for Onyedika, he got yellow-carded in the 51st minute after a bad foul. Nonetheless, that did not affect Club Brugge, as goals from Michal Skoras and Philip Zinckernagel completed the 3-0 win for Club Brugge. Aside from his goal, Onyedika registered 53 touches, an 85% pass accuracy, two blocked shots, one interception, and two tackles.
