Super Eagles players Ademola Lookman, Victor Boniface, and Nathan Tella have all guided their respective clubs to the next round of the UEFA Europa League competition, as reported by Soccernet.ng.
Atalanta stunned Liverpool, eliminating them from the tournament despite Mohamed Salah’s goal from the penalty spot in the second leg of their quarterfinal clash at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo.
Atalanta had secured a commanding three-goal lead at Anfield, which proved unconquerable for Jurgen Klopp’s side in the return leg in Italy.
Similarly, Leverkusen, the current Bundesliga champions, secured their spot in the next round with a 2-0 victory at the Bay Arena, following a 1-1 draw in the second leg of their clash against their opponents in London.
Lookman, Boniface, and Tella are the remaining Super Eagles players in the Europa League, with their respective clubs now knowing their semi-final opponents.
The Blue-Blacks will face Olympique Marseille from Ligue 1, while Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen will take on AS Roma in the semi-finals.
Should Atalanta and Leverkusen triumph in their semi-final clashes, a final in Dublin could see Lookman and his compatriots, Boniface and Tella potentially facing off against each other for the ultimate prize.
