President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau recently paid a visit to some Super Eagles stars who are presently recovering from injuries, Soccernet.ng reports.
The Super Eagles are gearing up to take on South Africa’s Bafana Bafana and Benin Republic’s Les Guepards in June, as they hope to secure a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ahead of the World Cup qualifiers, the NFF president is in Europe visiting some players of the national team who have been out of action due to injuries suffered while on international duty. Gusau paid a courtesy visit to Super Eagles captain William Troost Ekong, as well as Zaidu Sanusi and Moses Simon.
Gusau reportedly had a conversation with Ekong about the importance of the upcoming qualifying matches against South Africa and Benin Republic. The Nigerian defender is expected to participate in the matches, as he has hinted at a comeback in May.
Unfortunately, due to the severity of his injury, Moses Simon will be unable to participate in the upcoming games. The 28-year-old is undergoing rehabilitation, after a successful surgery, and has also been ruled out of playing alongside his FC Nantes team for the rest of the season.
Sanusi will also be missed at the World Cup qualifiers due to his knee injury, which he sustained during FC Porto’s match against CF Estrela in February.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Football Federation’s search for a new head coach is gradually coming to an end, as the Federation has reportedly narrowed down its choice to Finidi George and Emmanuel Amuneke.
