“Maybe 30” – Xabi Alonso reveals when Victor Boniface will return to action

Victor Boniface has not yet earned a minute on the pitch in the year 2024 following an adductor injury he picked during a training session with the Super Eagles

Bayer Leverkusen manager, Xabi Alonso, has provided insight into when Nigerian striker Victor Boniface will make his comeback for the Black and Reds following his recovery from injury, as reported by Soccernet.ng.

The Super Eagles attacker has been sidelined since 2023 due to an adductor injury, missing Nigeria’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations campaign and several key matches for his club.

However, Alonso’s comments in a press conference ahead of their upcoming clash against third-place team Fortuna Düsseldorf suggest that Boniface could feature for the group.

According to Sky Sport Germany, while Boniface may not play the full 90 minutes, he is expected to get around 30 minutes of game time.

“Boni is in the squad, I don’t know how long he can play. Not 90 minutes, maybe not 45, but maybe 30. He has completed a great rehab. He has a strong mentality and can’t wait to get back on the pitch.” Alonso stated.

Despite his absence, Boniface remains Leverkusen’s top scorer this season, with ten goals in the Bundesliga and 16 in all competitions. He will be eager to make an impact upon his return.

As Bundesliga league leaders, Leverkusen will be aiming for victory in their semi-final cup clash against Fortuna, hoping to extend their winning streak.
