Fulham’s Iwobi equals Nwankwo Kanu’s EPL assist record

Alex Iwobi scored a last-minute winner in Fulham's win over Manchester United at Old Trafford back in February.

Super Eagles and Fulham midfielder, Alex Chuka Iwobi, became the Nigerian player with the most assists in the English Premier League following their win over West Ham on Sunday, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 27-year-old versatile midfielder played a vital role in Fulham’s 2-0 win over David Moyes’ West Ham United on Sunday, helping Marco Silva’s men to just their third away win of the season.

Former Manchester United man, Andreas Pereira bagged a brace at the London Stadium, with the second goal coming from a brilliant cut-back made by Iwobi.

The former Arsenal man played 74 minutes as a right-winger on Sunday before coming off to be replaced by Harry Wilson. Iwobi has been in fine form following his post-AFCON scrutiny, scoring two goals alongside recording two assists.

His assist for Andreas Pereira on Sunday was his 29th in the English top-flight, going level with Super Eagles legend, Nwankwo Kanu, as the Nigerian players with the most assists in the English Premier League.

Papilo recorded 54 goals and 29 assists in 273 Premier League games across Arsenal, Portsmouth and West Bromwich Albion while Iwobi equalled the number of assists in 25 games less.

Yaya Toure (32), Emmanuel Adebayor (36), Sadio Mane (38), Didier Drogba (55), Riyadh Mahrez (61), and Mohammed Salah (68), are the only Africans to have bagged a higher tally of assists than Iwobi in the English Premier League.

N.B: We want to know your thoughts. Do you think Iwobi can hit 50 Premier League assists before he retires? Let us know in the comments.
