Victor Boniface: Xabi Alonso declares Super Eagles star unavailable for Bayer Leverkusen’s weekend clash against Hoffenheim

Boniface has returned to full training, but he still needs time before he returns to action

Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso has revealed that Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface will be unavailable for their clash against Hoffenheim on Saturday, Soccernet.ng reports.

Boniface had a great start to the season at Bayer Leverkusen, registering 16 goals and nine assists in 23 appearances for Die Werkself. His performances were key in Bayer Leverkusen’s great start to the campaign. Unfortunately, he sustained an adductor injury at the turn of the year and had to undergo surgery.

However, the 23-year-old hitman returned to action earlier in the week, as Bayer Leverkusen shared pictures of him training with his other teammates at the club’s training facility.

He was expected to return to action this weekend when they play Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga. However, in a new development per Bayer Leverkusen’s X page, Alonso has revealed that Boniface will be unavailable against Hoffenheim. However, he would return to action in the DFB Pokal semi-final against Fortuna Duesseldorf.

Coach Alonso will be hoping that Boniface makes a strong return next week. Despite Bayer Leverkusen’s superb run in his absence, Boniface will be expected to play an important role for Bayer Leverkusen in their last few games. Once he gets back to his best, the likes of Patrick Schick and Borja Iglesias would have to spend more time on the bench.
