Transfer: Liverpool, Milan and Marseille eye Nigeria-eligible defender

Calvin Bassey and Tosin Adarabioyo have been solid for Fulham this season.

Nigeria-eligible England-born Fulham central defender, Tosin Adarabioyo, is garnering interest from several clubs in and out of England, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 26-year-old defender has played fifteen of Fulham’s twenty-nine Premier League games this season, starting on thirteen occasions and scoring once.

The former Manchester City defender has started the last five games for the Cottagers, partnering with Calvin Bassey to shield Bernd Leno’s goal. They’ve won four of the last five games, keeping two clean sheets.

Adarabioyo was born in Manchester to Nigerian parents. Tosin is the last of three children. His two brothers are also involved in football.

His eldest brother, Gbolahan is his agent, and the next, Fisayo, retired in 2021 after playing for Ashton United. The three brothers are graduates of the Manchester City Academy.

Adarabioyo has played for England at the youth level, but has yet to get a call-up to the senior team. A switch to play for the Super Eagles is not out of the question for him either.

“I’m eligible to play for England or Nigeria. I believe I should be going to the next World Cup either with England or Nigeria, that’s my target,” the defender told Lancanshaire Telegraph in 2020.

As per Daily Mail, Ange Postecoglu’s Tottenham Hotspur, Olympique De Marseille, Liverpool and AC Milan are eyeing the former West Brom defender.

His contract expires at the end of the season, and Marco Silva’s side are hoping they can tie the 1.96m tall defender to a new deal before the start of next season, but the player is intent on keeping his options open.

Liverpool is looking to replace the aging Joel Matip, whose contract also expires in the summer. For Tottenham, the sale of Eric Dier to Bayern Munich has left them thin on options at the back, and coupled with Christian Romero’s injury problems, they want Tosin to provide extra security.

Just like Tosin, Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi ply their trade with the London club and had options to play for England but opted to play for Nigeria.
