Taiwo Awoniyi’s strike against West Ham nominated for Nottingham Forest’s February goal of the month award

Taiwo Awoniyi hit form at the right time last season, scoring ten goals to keep Nottingham Forest afloat in the English Premier League.

Super Eagles and Nottingham Forest striker, Taiwo Michael Awoniyi, has had his strike against David Moyes’ West Ham United nominated for the club’s February goal of the month, Soccernet.ng reports.

Awoniyi, 26, missed the AFCON 2023 with the Super Eagles of Nigeria due to a recurrent groin problem which he needed to get surgery on.

Since he returned, he has been involved in three goals for Nuno Santo Espirito’s men, taking his tally in the Premier League to six goals and three assists in twelve starts for the Reds.

His lovely goal against West Ham has been nominated for the club’s goal of the month, alongside Callum Hudson-Odoi’s curler against Bournemouth, Anthony Elanga’s cool finish against Newcastle and Morgan Gibbs-White’s dink at Villa Park completed the list of nominated goals.

A cross cleared by the West Ham defence fell kindly to Nicolas Dominguez who in turn played a wonderful pass into the path of Awoniyi. The swift turn of the 26-year-old left Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd in wonderland before he placed his left-footed finish beyond Alphonse Areola.

The winner will be announced after the votes have been collated on the club’s official website. The goal with the most votes wins the award.

Nuno’s men have just one win from their last five games and will face Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool later today. The Merseysiders are firing on all fronts and have won their last five games, scoring fifteen, and conceding just three goals.
