Serie A: Victor Osimhen’s starting spot against Inter Milan in doubt after picking up injury against Barcelona

Victor Osimhen scored against Barcelona in the first leg of their UEFA round of sixteen tie, but Napoli lost 4-2 on aggregate.

Napoli and Super Eagles centre forward, Victor Osimhen, is in the race against time to regain full fitness ahead of his side’s Serie A clash against Inter Milan this weekend, Soccernet.ng reports.

Osimhen, 25, has featured in all of Napoli’s last five games, playing a full ninety in the last three as the defending Serie A champions were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League by Robert Lewandowski’s Barcelona.

As per FcInter News, last season’s Serie A Golden Boot winner picked up a muscle strain at Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys after his side lost to Barcelona on Tuesday night.

Napoli will play against Inter on Sunday night. The Nerazzurri, just like Francesco Calzona’s side, suffered a midweek Champions League defeat at the Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid, with Diego Simeone’s Atletico coming out victorious on penalties.

Simeone Inzaghi’s men look to seal their 20th league triumph as they’re sixteen points clear at the top of the Italian League, with ten games to spare. With Osimhen’s involvement in the game in doubt, the 2010 treble winners have some good news on their side.

“Napoli trained this morning at the SSCN Konami Training Center, they are preparing for the San Siro match against Inter. The team trained starting the session with an activation phase. Subsequently, the group engaged in tactical technical work and small-field games. Osimhen carried out personalized work on the pitch due to a muscle strain he suffered at the end of the match in Barcelona,” reads Napoli’s statement via FcInterNews.

The former Lille man has suffered two muscle injuries to his right thigh this season, and the club will be hoping to avoid a recurrence as the season winds down to its business end, they’ll require their talisman to remain fit as they chase European spots.
