Serie A: Osimhen fires blanks; Lookman flourishes as Atalanta demolish Napoli in Naples

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen failed to score for Napoli, as they succumbed to a humiliating 3-0 loss against Atalanta at the Diego Maradona Stadium in Naples, Soccernet.ng reports.

Napoli returned to Serie A action with a game against Atalanta at the Diego Maradona Stadium. Nigerian stars Ademola Lookman and Osimhen were expected to play important roles for Atalanta and Napoli respectively. However, while Osimhen was in the starting eleven, Lookman started from the bench.

The game was quite balanced in the opening minutes, with chances falling to both sides. Osimhen also got a bite at the cherry in the 18th minute, but his header was saved.

Just eight minutes later, Aleksey Miranchuk opened the scoring for Atalanta. La Dea had other opportunities to score. Eventually, Miranchuk doubled their lead in the 45th minute to give Atalanta a comfortable lead heading into the game.

In the second half, Napoli played better, but they failed to create clear-cut chances. Osimhen was up and about, but he was not at his clinical best. He registered five shots on target, but none of them went into the net.

Lookman was introduced into the game 61st minute, and he was quite impressive for Atalanta. He registered one shot on goal, 19 touches and two key passes.

Teun Koopmeiners eventually scored the third goal for Atalanta in the 88th minute to complete the 3-0 scoreline and seal the win for La Dea.
