Report – Victor Osimhen’s Super Eagles absence looms despite Napoli bench role vs. Inter

Victor Osimhen further established himself as a formidable striker scoring five goals in three matches to mark his return from AFCON

Super Eagles talisman, Victor Osimhen, is poised to miss Nigeria’s international friendly against Ghana and Mali despite being benched for Napoli’s clash with Inter Milan, according to Soccernet.ng.

Nigeria is gearing up to revive their historic rivalry against Ghana’s Black Stars in Marrakech, Morocco, with Osimhen included in the 26-man squad for the friendly.

However, Osimhen’s absence, according to AreaNapoli, is attributed to fatigue from a previous injury and the decision to prioritize his fitness for Napoli’s upcoming match against Atalanta BC.

Napoli, the reigning Serie A champions, currently sit in seventh place in the league standings, with their hopes of European qualification taking a hit after a 1-1 draw against Inter Milan.

Despite their position, Napoli is determined to secure maximum points against Gian Piero Gasperini’s side to keep their European aspirations alive.

Osimhen will remain at Castel Volturno for two weeks to focus on his recovery in the hopes of improving his condition.

Having played a crucial role for the Super Eagles at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Osimhen returned to Napoli and scored six goals, solidifying his position as a key player in the squad. His presence will be crucial for Napoli as they aim to finish the season strongly.
