Official: Super Falcons’ Olympic qualifying match with South Africa confirmed with date and venue

Super Falcons of Nigeria are slated to tackle South Africa’s Banyana Banyana in the next round of the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament final qualifying fixture, Soccernet.ng reports.

Randy Waldrum’s troops secure the ticket to the next round of the qualification tie following a 1-nil aggregate victor over Cameroon while South Africa defeated Tanzania to advance to the next round.

As a result, both team will battle it out in the final round of the qualifiers with the first leg scheduled to hold at the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on Friday, 5th April.

The return leg, scheduled for Tuesday, 9th April in South Africa with the venue yet to be decided, will see the African top-ranked team and the reigning African champions exchange tackles.

The winner over the two legs in early April will secure a spot among the 16 senior women’s teams competing in the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament, set to kick off in Paris on 16th July.

CAF Coach of the Year and Banyana Banyana coach, Desiree Ellis, has earlier reiterated her team’s unwavering determination to prepare rigorously for the impending showdown against the nine-time African champions.

In anticipation of the clash, Ellis emphasized the paramount importance of early and comprehensive preparation, suggesting plans for an early training camp to bolster their chances of success.

“It will be do or die [against Nigeria], We want to have an early camp, we will improve our chances when we prepare early and very well” she said.

With this, the highly anticipated encounter between the two formidable teams is expected to be intense, as they vie for a coveted spot in the tournament.

The 11-time Women’s Africa Cup of Nations champions will lock horns in the coming month, striving to secure a place in the tournament for the first time in 16 years.
