NPFL: Sporting Lagos in fourth heavens after trashing Remo Stars in thrilling Nigerian South-West derby

Sporting Lagos secured yet another win over Remo Stars at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium, defeating their rivals 4-1, Soccernet.ng reports.

The hugely anticipated NPFL South West derby lived up to its billing, as fans and players rallied around with their best performance this evening to support their teams.

Coach Daniel Ogunmodede recalled his team’s top scorer,  Sikiru Alimi into his starting eleven while Isaac James returned to the bench.

The noisy Lagosians were up to a flying start within three minutes. A foul on Paschal by the Remo defender led to a penalty which a former Remo stars striker, Junior Lokosa, buried into the bottom corner, leaving Bankole no chance.

A long ball from Aliu Salawudeen found Bankole scrambling as he came out of his box, only to fluff his lines and give Paschal Durogbor an open goal to tap into.

Remo Stars pulled one back after Sadiq Ismail’s low cross was hacked into the net by Sporting’s captain, Salawudeen.

The second half kicked off and Sporting were firing on all fronts yet again. A corner kick floated in from the right wasn’t properly cleared, leaving Philipp Kehinde just enough space to hit a bicycle shot into the roof of Ojo’s net.

The game was beyond reach for the Ikenne faithful on the hour mark. Substitute Fernando raced into the box to square a low cross which was tapped home by Isaac Vanoor.

Sporting Lagos’ win takes them up to 12th place on the NPFL table while Remo Stars’ chances of qualification for continental football take a big hit as they drop to 5th.
