NPFL Roundup: Sporting Lagos continue winning streak at home, Remo Stars taste another derby loss, Lobi Stars stay top

It was another entertaining matchday in the Nigeria Professional Football League, this time, an all-Sunday affair. Soccernet.ng reports all of the action that ensued in the Nigerian top-flight league.

Rivers United kicked us off to a flying start by defeating Heartland. An early first-half strike from Ukeme Williams was enough to seal all three points for the 2022 NPFL winners.

Abia Warriors and Sunshine Stars played out a boring goalless draw. The game between Gombe United and Akwa United also ended in a stalemate, with both sides scoring a goal.

Bayelsa United returned to winning ways after three straight losses, defeating Kano Pillars 2-1, but are still just a point away from the relegation spots.

Bendel Insurance scored four goals for the first time this season, thanks to two own goals from Doma United. A second-half brace from Junior Osaghae moved Monday Odigie’s to 9th position on the table.

Enugu Rangers defeated the NPFL league leaders, Lobi Stars, but the Benue faithful remain top of the League, with Rangers just a point behind in second place.

Enyimba bounced back from a midweek loss to Remo Stars by putting three past Niger Tornadoes. A late goal from Akintunde Azeez was only a consolation for Tornadoes as they left it too little too late to stage a possible comeback.

Katsina United completed a comeback against Plateau United at home. Hilary opened the scoring for the away side, but the home side fought back. Goals from Andrew Idoko and Ezeh Chidera secured three points for the host.

Sporting Lagos won at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena against Kwara United. Goals from Paschal Durogbor and captain Aliu Salawudeen sealed a fifth straight win at home for Coach Paul Offor’s side.

Alimi Sikiru was sent off against his former club as Remo Stars lost another bragging right against 3SC. Christian Pyagbara’s brace gave Gbenga Ogunbote’s side victory. Both teams now lie in 5th and 6th places respectively on the NPFL table.
