Nnamdi Ofoborh: Ex-Nigeria U-20 star gets new club after three-year hiatus from football because of heart issue

The Nigerian defender has been out of action for the last three years, but he has made his return

Nigerian defender Nnamdi Ofoborh has signed for English League Two side Swindon Town following a three-year absence from football because of a heart problem, Soccernet.ng reports.

Ofoborh joined Rangers from Bournemouth in 2021 in a free transfer. Unfortunately, just weeks into his stay at the club, he was diagnosed with a heart issue. Due to this problem, he did not play for the club in his entire two-year stay.

His career was halted in the two years that he did not play, and he eventually parted ways with Rangers in the summer of 2023.

In a new development, Swindon Town an English League Two side have confirmed that they have signed Ofoborh. Following the ratification of the EFL board, the deal has now been sealed.

Ofoborh was involved in the club’s game against Notts County on Friday, which they won. He started from the bench, but he was introduced into the game in the 85th minute of the game.

The 24-year-old central defender’s move to Swindon Town could mark the beginning of his comeback, as he would be looking to get a better club if he performs well before the end of the season.

Ofoborh has not been invited to the Super Eagles squad, but if he can return to his best and get a better club, he could get into the fold in a few years.

He was part of Nigeria squad at the Under-20 World Cup finals in Poland in 2019, and he made three appearances in the tournament.
