Nigerians split over the choice of Jose Peseiro as Super Eagles coach

Jose Peseiro led the Super Eagles of Nigeria to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament

Portuguese manager Jose Peseiro has bid farewell to the Nigerian Super Eagles after failing to reach a contract agreement with the Nigerian Football Federation, as reported by Soccernet.ng.

This departure has sparked a debate within the Nigerian football community regarding the NFF’s decision not to retain him, especially after guiding the team to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

During his 22-month tenure, Peseiro secured 11 wins, four draws, and suffered seven losses with the Super Eagles.

While some sections of the Nigerian football community supported Peseiro, others were critical, feeling he had not achieved enough during his time in charge.

A recent poll conducted by Soccernet.ng showed a divided opinion, with 48.75% in favor of keeping Peseiro, 45.98% against, and 5.26% undecided.

In the interim, the Nigerian Football Body has reportedly appointed Technical Director Augustine Eguavoen to take charge until a permanent replacement is found.

The Super Eagles are gearing up for the upcoming international break, with fixtures against El Salvador and previously scheduled against Argentina, which was canceled due to visa processing issues.
