Nigerians abroad: Osimhen, Arokodare miss penalties; Lookman, Moffi, Ejuke on fire in Italy, France, Belgium

Soccernet.ng monitored dozens of matches that could potentially involve Nigerian players on Sunday, March 3rd.

Here are the most eye-catching highlights:

Italy

Victor Osimhen and Napoli claimed a major scalp at the Diego Maradona Stadium as they beat Juventus 2-1 in their Serie A clash.

Kvaratskhelia and Chiesa traded goals either side of the break before Osimhen won a penalty for Napoli in the 88th minute.

Juventus goalkeeper Szczęsny saved Osimhen’s penalty but Raspadori was the quickest to the rebound and the Italian forward hit the net for Napoli’s winner.

Atalanta were stunned 1-2 at home by Bologna with Ademola Lookman netting his first of the year for the home side while Joshua Orobosa Zirkzee was among the goals for the visitors.

Super Falcons star Jennifer Echegini and Juventus succumbed to a narrow 1-0 defeat at Fiorentina in the first leg of their Coppa Italia Women encounter.

Both teams will meet for the return leg on March 9.

France

In Ligue 1, Terem Moffi scored his first goal since December 20 but it was not enough to help OGC Nice avoid a 2-1 defeat to Toulouse.

Gift Orban continued his search for a first Ligue 1 goal as he was caged in Lyon’s crushing 3-0 defeat at home to Lens.

It was another story of defeat for Moses Simon whose best efforts was not good enough in Nantes tough 2-0 loss at home to Metz.

Akor Adams forgot his goalscoring boots at home as his Montpellier played out a thrilling 2-2 draw with Strasbourg.

Albania

In the 1st Division, Anthony Umejiego grabbed his seventh league goal of the season to help fire Apolonia Fier to a fine 2 – 0 victory against Kastrioti Krujë.

Armenia

In the Premier League, Sani Buhari and Olaoluwa Ojetunde were the goal scorers for Van as they secured a 2-0 win over Ararat-Armenia.

At the Vazgen Sargsyan anvan Hanrapetakan Marzadasht in Yerevan, Ransom Jidechukwu was the difference-maker as his 56th-minute penalty was enough to hand Ararat a 1 – 0 victory against BKMA.

Belgium

Tolu Arokodare missed a penalty in the 18th minute that would have given Genk the lead in their 0 – 3 defeat at home to Raphael Onyedika’s Club Brugge.

Chidera Ejuke scored Royale Antwerp’s second goal and assisted the third to lift them to a 3-0 victory over Sint-Truiden.

Alhassan Yusuf, Victor Udoh, and George Ilenikhena all featured for the winners.

Denmark

In the Superliga, Kano-born Ibrahim Said assisted one of the goals as Viborg strolled to an easy 3 – 0 win against Randers.

Stephen Odey was in action for Randers but failed to inspire the visitors to a positive result.

Estonia

In the Meistriliiga, Ahmed Adebayo’s 70th-minute penalty rescued a point for Tammeka as they battled to a 1-1 draw with Tallinna Kalev.

Hungary

In the NB I, 21-year-old Peter Ambrose scored his first goal of 2024 and his seventh of the campaign to propel Újpest to a decent 2 – 0 win at home to Fehérvár.

Moldova

Emmanuel Alaribe equalised for Zimbru before Dedechko netted a late winner in their 2-1 Cupa victory over Milsami.

Sweden

It was an eventful evening in the Svenska Cupen for Azeez Yusuf as he drew the game level for Varberg in their thrilling 1-1 draw away to Malmö before he was sent off in the second half for a second booking.

Switzerland

In the Swiss Super League, Ifeanyi Mathew broke the deadlock in the first minute, and it was all Zürich needed to seal a narrow 1 – 0 win over Young Boys.

Uruguay

In the Primera Division, Christian Ebere continued his excellent form on loan at Nacional as he converted expertly from the spot to lift the home side to a brilliant 3 – 0 win over Wanderers.

United States

Ibrahim Aliyu got the consolation goal for Houston Dynamo in their 2-1 defeat against New York RB at the Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, Texas.
