Nigerians abroad: Nnadozie saves penalty in France; Nwabali keeps it clean; Azango inspires Slovakian Cup win

Soccernet.ng monitored dozens of matches that could potentially involve Nigerian players on Wednesday, March 6th.

Here are the most eye-catching highlights:

England

In the Championship, Watford ended a poor run of two straight defeats by picking up a 1 – 1 draw with Swansea City at Vicarage Road.

Emmanuel Dennis and Tom Dele-Bashiru played every minute for the Hornets as both teams settled for a share of the spoils.

Semi Ajayi came off the bench to help West Bromwich Albion battle to a 2-2 draw with Queens Park Rangers at the MATRADE Loftus Road in London.

Spain

Rasheedat Ajibade was in action for Atletico Madrid as the former Spanish champions managed a 1-1 draw with Real Sociedad in the first leg of their Copa de la Reina clash.

A few hours earlier, Ajibade was named the winner of the club’s Player of the Month award for February for her excellent displays.

Italy

Ademola Lookman was unlucky not to get his name on the score sheet as Atalanta forced Sporting Lisbon to a 1-1 draw in Portugal in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League knockout clash.

France

In the Femenine Division, Chiamaka Nnadozie was the hero for Paris FC as she saved a crucial penalty in her side’s exciting 3-2 victory over Le Havre.

Le Havre raced to a two-goal lead courtesy of a brace from French attacker Inès Benyahia, but Paris FC fought back impressively through a double from Louna Ribadeira.

However, the visitors had the chance to retake the lead in the 70th minute, but Nnadozie stopped Inès Benyahia’s penalty kick.

The Parisians then secured all three points when Ribadeira completed her hat-trick in the 89th minute.

Slovakia

At the Futbalový štadión MFK Zemplín in Michalovce, Philip Azango opened the scoring for Spartak Trnava as they secured a 2-0 Cup win over their hosts Zemplín Michalovce.

With the win, Spartak Trnava are through to the semifinals of the competition.

South Africa

Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali was impressive in goal for Chippa United as they forced a 3-0 defeat down the throat of Richards Bay in the Premier Soccer League.

It is Nwabali’s eighth clean sheet of the season for Chippa United and his first since returning from helping Nigeria to a second-place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
