Wilfred Ndidi joined Leicester City from Genk in 2017 to help the Foxes replace the departing Ngolo Kante who won the league for the club.
Leicester City’s head coach, Enzo Maresca, has revealed that Super Eagles midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, is nearing full fitness after picking up an injury in December, Soccernet.ng reports.
Ndidi, 27, was an important member of Maresca’s plans before his muscle injury, playing in twenty-one games for the Foxes, and scoring two goals in the process.
During the AFCON 2023 tournament, the former Genk midfielder revealed he was two weeks away from returning to action but it didn’t turn out that way.
A month later, Maresca revealed that Ndidi has returned to individual training but hasn’t started sessions with the team, as it’ll take time for him to reach the level of intensity required.
“They are all good, to be honest. Wilf is still out and that is all. He has already started to do some sessions with us, but part of the session, not all. Hopefully next week he can complete the session with us, which means he starts to be available. Hopefully, we can have Wilf back because, as you know, he is an important player for us. Now we are trying to find solutions to adapt players but hopefully, we can have him back very soon,” the Italian manager said in quotes revealed by the club’s official website.
Despite reiterating Ndidi’s importance, Maresca has remained mute concerning his contract situation. Ndidi’s current contract expires in June, and he has been linked with James Maddison at Tottenham Hotspur.
