The Super Falcons got a goalless draw against Cameroon in Douala, and they must now win the second leg to stand a chance of qualifying for the next round
Super Falcons coach Randy Waldrum has expressed confidence in his team's chances of victory in the second leg of the 2024 Olympic qualifiers against Cameroon on Monday, Soccernet.ng reports.
Nigeria had to settle for a goalless draw when they took on Cameroon in the first leg of their Olympic qualifiers clash. They could have easily come out of the fixture with a win, but their legitimate goal was fortuitously ruled out.
Nonetheless, they will have a chance to finish off the tie next Monday at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja. However, they have to be careful and avoid conceding, as that would mean that a score draw would knock them out.
Despite these intricacies, Super Falcons coach Waldrum has insisted that the team is not afraid of losing.
“We're not afraid, and I am not afraid. My mind as the manager of the squad doesn't think in terms of what if we lose because you always have to play to win,” Waldrum said per the Super Falcons Show.
The thought of losing is not even on my mind, I don't think we have fear of anybody. We've played the European champions, and we played the Olympic gold medallists to a draw at the World Cup.
We know we can play some of the best teams in the world, so we have no fear. I give credit to Cameroon for the job they did, but there's no fear on our part.”
Cameroon dominated the first leg and had better chances. But that could be because of the home advantage. Nigeria will have the advantage in the second leg, and hopefully, they will take it.
